['lɪtl 'rɔk], Hauptstadt des Bundesstaates Arkansas, USA, am Arkansas River, 175 800 Einwohner; die Metropolitan Area hat 513 100 Einwohner; Sitz eines anglikanischen, eines katholischen und eines methodistischen Bischofs; Zweig der University of Arkansas. Die Industrie liefert Baumwollsaatöl, Nahrungsmittel, Chemikalien, Möbel, Wohnwagen. Bei Little Rock liegen bedeutende Bauxitgruben mit Tonerdewerk und Aluminiumhütte.
 
 
Erhalten sind einige restaurierte Häuser (um 1820), das erste Kapitolsgebäude (1821-36) sowie das Old State House (1836-1911 Kapitol; heute Museum und Bibliothek). C. Gilbert errichtete 1917 das heutige State Capitol.
 
 
Little Rock entstand 1812 und wurde 1821 Hauptstadt des Territoriums Arkansas. 1957/58 war es Schauplatz heftiger Auseinandersetzungen um die Gleichberechtigung der Schwarzen.
